What does frostbite look like

Whenever you're exposed to the cold for a long time, you can get frostbite. I am going to put this into a little bit of a story, so go ahead and read up.

Imagine, you're out in the mountains. Freezing cold. You're climbing and having lots of fun with your friends. Suddenly, I don't know why, you lose your shoes and step on the snow with bare feet (I know it's crazy, but it's just an example). If you keep walking on the snow for too long, you'll get frostbite on your feet.

So, frostbite will affect an area on your body that has direct contact with really cold temperature. Your soft tissues will actually freeze and that's how your frostbite is created.

So, let's talk about what it looks like.

The area with a frostbite will get really dark. In fact some people even say that the area actually gets black, but in fact it's either really dark blue or purple. The skin around that area will swell a little, but there will be no blisters.

You won't see any bumps or anything, just a black area on your skin.

Now, I have to say that frostbite hurts like mad. Imagine a whole bunch of knives being stick into your skin and you'll get an idea. After some time, your skin will actually die and you won't be able to feel anything at all.

How do you treat frostbite?

When you got frostbite, you should know what to do with it to be able to get rid of it as soon as you possibly can.

1. The first thing you got to do is get some pain killers. The reason for that is that when your skin gets rewarmed, it will hurt like crazy, so just trust me on this one.

2. Then, after you take your drugs, go ahead and heat up some water. Be sure it's not too hot 104F is just fine.

3. Immerse the frostbitten area into that water and keep it in there for a short while.

4. Get some more water that's about 104F. If it gets lower than that, you need to replace the water again. Go ahead and repeat the process a few times (until you notice that the skin is again of normal color).

5. When you're done soaking it, put the frostbitten area into the water with some mild antibacterial substance to avoid infections.

6. Put aloe vera onto the area and make sure that the area does not freeze again.

Frost bites are pretty nasty to look at and extremely painful. That's why you have to be extremely careful to avoid it. If you happen to have it, though, then the tips I shared with you above will help you to identify it as well as treat it.

What does mucus look like

Mucus is one of those things that everyone says "blah" to. I really can't blame anyone for that as it's a little gross looking and pretty nasty to talk about to be honest, but let's give it a shot, shal we?

See, mucus is what you can find in your nose whenever you have a runny nose. It's that transparent, gel like substance that you blow out when you got a cold. Usually, mucus has no color although it can get a little yellowish if you get an infection or something.

As a tip, I can tell you, that the more yellow the mucus is, the more dangerous your infection is, so generally speaking, if you blow your nose and look at your cleanex, you'll see what color it is.

Also, if you have an infection, you'll notice that your mucus will get thicker as well. Normally it's pretty thin and easy to blow out, but when it's thicker, you'll have a hard time clearing out your nose.

How to get rid of mucus?

Well, we need a little bit of mucus just to keep the inside of our nose a little moist. When it gets too dry, it burns, so, don't attempt to dry out your nose completely.

What if you get too much of it? Well, then it depends what the reason for the mucus infection is. It can be a flu, it can be a cold, you can have lots of snot produced if it's too cold, so the "treatment" depends on the reason.

Most of the time, you don't even treat it very much because it won't make much of a difference. The one thing you can do is being very delicate with how you blow your nose. If you press your tissue too hard, you'll rub the top layer of your skin off and your nose will get red, raw and it will hurt each time you touch it.

Fortunately, you can get cleanexes that will have some type of an ointment put on them which will make the tissue nicer on your nose.

Another tip that's good to use is making sure you blow your nose using a clean cleanex each time. Some people think that this is a bit expensive, but it's worth it if you think about it. I mean, if you clean your nose properly, you can slash your recovery time in a half.

Mucus is a natural thing to have inside your nose. When too much of it gets produced, you can get rid of it using the tips above. They seem easy and simple to implement, but don't underestimate them. They are good.
