In order to detect mold at the first instance, it is important to know what mold actually look like. Mold can form on any surface, clothes and food. It is a kind of fungal growth which grows in humid conditions. It has a furry or soft cotton like feel and can grow on any surface which is porous. It is generally black in color but can also be of other colors like green, grey or pink.

Mould grows on a surface when there is dampness and humidity. It may grow in patches or may cover a large portion of the surface. The common surfaces where it grows are damp walls, ceilings, wooden surfaces, cupboards, clothes and leather goods. Areas and cupboards which are not ventilated and do not receive sunlight are favorable for the growth of mould. It is important to know what does mold look like as the presence of mold in one’s surroundings is not good for health. Walls or ceilings which are damp due to water leakage are easy targets for moulds. One of the greatest indications of the growth of mould is the damp musty smell which is sometimes foul if the growth is thick. One can easily make out from its typical odor that mold has grown on some surface. It is important to remove mold at once as it can easily spread from one surface to another especially in the case of clothes. The mold which forms a powdery coating on clothes is called mildew and this also has the same musty smell. It is important to know what mold looks like as you should take the necessary steps to remove it once you detect it.

Stains Caused By Mold Are Difficult To Remove There are treatments to remove and prevent mold from reappearing on a surface which has already been affected. Mould spoils whatever surface it forms on. It can form a tough stain on the surface it grows and is hard to remove. Also the musty, foul smell can cause health problems and trigger allergies and sneezing. Wearing clothes affected by mildew can cause irritations in the nose, eye and on the skin. Such clothes should be immediately separated from other clothes to prevent spreading. Cleaning clothes, shoes, furniture and walls affected by mold is very difficult and the original appearance of the surface is hard to get back. It is important to know what mold looks like so that we can take steps like cleaning and airing to prevent mold from growing and if it does form one must do the needful to remove it straight away.
